Hello,

Some of you may have heard that there was a hostage situation in a small main street town in Nebraska. This has really shaken up the community. The state coordinator asked me to forward info about the incident and to ask for letters of encouragement from other main street communities to help them through this difficult time. If you feel so inclined, please see the address below.

Thanks, Sheri

Update from Alliance, NE--

er-got-me-out-alive

If you or any of your communities would like to send a card or note of
concern and encouragement to the folks at the Historic Alliance Main Street
program that can be shared with those involved in this incident from the Box
Butte Development/Main Street/Chamber/CVB staff to the police officers,
wounded pharmacist/business owner and his staff, as well as the other
downtown business owners and employees who were affected here is the contact
information:

Historic Main Street Alliance
Attn: Kristi Ellstrom
305 Box Butte Ave.
Alliance NE 69301

I think a flood of support would be extremely helpful in boosting morale and
understanding that there are people out there who care and are part of a
greater network of communities. Alliance is geographically isolated and they
often feel detached from the rest of the state because of the wide open
spaces and distance from major centers.

I appreciate the ideas and thoughts already expressed by many of you. This
is not an easy situation but we will get through it!
