Hello Main Street Coordinators, Program Managers & Directors and others in the Main Street Family,
It was great to see many of you in New Orleans earlier this week. What an undeniable GREAT City!
The Boston contingent, like all of you, was horrified at what took place in our City on Monday while we were in New Orleans. We then learned Tuesday that the young victim was the 8 year old son of Bill Richard, a long time St. Mark’s Area Main Street Board Member and former Board Chair here in Boston. Thankfully Bill’s wife and daughter continue to improve but their lives have been changed forever. As a first grader, his daughter will have to learn to use a prosthesis for the rest of her life, a life without one of her brothers.
I am hoping that the great community of Main Streets across the country will come together to help this family who has been so influential in improving their neighborhood commercial district over the years. A little or a lot, whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Fund to Assist the Richard Family
In response to the tragic events at the Boston Marathon, and the inspiring outpouring of support from so many people near and far, St. Mark's Area Main Street has established the Richard Family Fund, to support the family in light of expenses that will inevitably arise. 100% of donations collected via this campaign will be disbursed to the Richards. We expect the funds will be used for medical expenses, for memorial services, or other appropriate expenditures at the family's discretion.
Bill Richard is a long-time member of the SMAMS board. The fund was set up by SMAMS volunteers and staff, and friends.
Contributions can be made online at:
http://richardfamilyfund.org/
Also, checks payable to "Richard Family Fund" can be mailed to:
St. Mark's Area Main Street, Inc.
1914 Dorchester Avenue
Dorchester, MA 02124
For questions about the Richards, please contact family spokesperson Scott Ferson: ferson at libertysquaregroup.com
For questions about the fund, please contact SMAMS president Tim Deihl: deihlre at gmail.com
For questions about the donation site, please contact Chris Peterson: chris.peterson at mit.edu
Many thanks to all who played a role in this, especially Chris Peterson and colleagues at the MIT Center for Civic Media, and Eastern Bank.
