Very interesting that you are doing this. We just did this with our Bandon Main Street program (Greater Bandon Association) on July 16th. I have had occasion to interact and work with Vince in the past as a Ford Community Fellow.
Our workshop was well attended and evaluation summaries scored it very highly. I ran into a shop owner on Monday who told me she continues to go to the system for data profiling our community.
Rather than just attend the workshop, I would encourage all communities to contact Vince directly and ask him to come to do a workshop in your community. There is no cost and Vince comes gladly. He sees it as part of his "job duties" and travels the State.
This is something that you can do as a Main Street program that will have the community extolling the virtues of your program. In Bandon, we attracted businesses, non-profits and government staff because everyone needs community profile data for many different reasons.
Frankly, you don't even need the workshop as you can get on the internet, sign into the system and extract the data you are looking for. But, Vince makes it interesting, shows all the nuances, explains the pitfalls.
Again, I would encourage all of you who have not to bring Vince in. Contact info:

Hey Main Street Fans --
The information below was in the Estacada Main Street August Newsletter. Sheri Stuart thought you all might be interested and asked me to forward you the information. This "class" will be "focused" on Estacada, however, I ASSUME if you are interested, you'll learn the skills to navigate to the information about your own community.
It's a BEAUTIFUL drive to Estacada, if you should choose to join us for this interesting class on Thursday morning September 5.
I hope you're all getting out to enjoy this most amazing summer weather we're having -- it's fleeting......

Rural Communities Explorer
Are you interested in a wider range of data and information about Estacada? Would you like deeper knowledge about a certain aspect of our community? This upcoming FREE workshop on Thursday, September 5, from 9:00-11:00 at Estacada City Hall, may just be what you need.
Vince Adams, of Oregon State University Extension Service and Rural Studies Program, will present the Rural Communities Explorer, a resource that provides online access to social, demographic, economic and environmental data about Oregon’s rural cities. The Estacada Development Association is sponsoring this opportunity.
Rural Communities Explorer is a public, unbiased information system and teaching tool for rural leaders, engaged residents, program practitioners, and foundations. Its Communities Reporter provides a sense of the makeup of the communities in Oregon with statistics compiled from a wide range of sources. Learn how to get quick access to hard evidence through this integrated, well-organized, annually updated system.
This is a joint effort of Oregon State Extension Service and Rural Studies Program, OSU Libraries, and the Institute for Natural Resources, with funding from the Ford Family Foundation. For more information, contact Gloria Polzin, Estacada Main Street Manager, gloria.mainstreet at gmail.com, (503) 974-4043 or Jane Reid, Ford Community Fellow, janereid at msn.com, (503) 630-4013.
