[OMS_MANAGERS] Dues rates

In Bandon, we have chosen to go a different route. We chose to become a 501 (c) (3) and have avoided dues, raising money instead primarily through grants, donations and fundraisers and could not be happier with the results. We already have businesses paying dues to the Chamber and other associations.

The end result is we do not have to deal with the question that our Chamber encounters from its members: “What am I getting for my $100”. More importantly, we are independent and do not have to “answer” to anyone.

The latter has been a special advantage. When we go before any body to advocate or raise funds, we argue that we are doing it on behalf of the community. It has enabled us to build a Board that includes the City Manager, the Port District, a City Councilor, the Chamber president that has helped us immensely with marketing. As a result, I believe we get more done for our businesses, community and economic revitalization than we ever could as a dues paying organization identified with any one single constituency.

Then again, we are a small town. It may not work for everyone. It doesn’t get ownership except most importantly from the community as a whole.

Hello,

Here in Coos Bay, we just have a flat rate of $25 for people/businesses/nonprofits. Maybe I need to revisit this.

Can you send me what you find out?

Hello all,

I’m looking for information on your business membership dues structure -- ours are broken down thusly:

Associate Members $120 (for those members located outside the economic improvement district)

Nonprofits $100

1-2 Employees $120

3-5 Employees $180

6-8 Employees $240

9+ Employees $295

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much!

Cassie
