In Port Orford, we had to argue with the IRS that helping businesses and revitalization was lessoning the burden of government and helping preservation. Sheri provided us with information that helped.. We started the 501c3 process in the very beginning of our organization as we saw it as a need to apply for small grants etc. & the city did or does not have money to help us - no urban renewal etc. It was a lot of work but worth it.

Seriously, and I think it is happening more and more, if they perceive the primary beneficiary of our efforts of being a small downtown area, they were not buying it. We had to go city-wide.

We argued successfully that we were a community development organization, not an economically development organization.

I know you sent it to Nathan but I am having a hard time getting it from him and I am taking this project on because it needs to get done and the group is not moving on this project. Sorry if it sounds like I am wining I just feel it is more important than others do and I want to get it done.
