1. Reminder to register for the FREE "Main Street as Developer"
workshop on Wednesday, March 27, 8 a.m. to noon, Cook Memorial Library,
2006 Fourth Street, La Grande. Parking is available on-site. Affilitate
& Exploring Downtown level communities register at:
http://msdeveloper.eventbrite.com

The workshop will feature Bridgette Epple, executive director of
Downtown Washington, Inc., a 2013 Great American Main Street award
winning community. Under her tenure, the program was the active
developer of a few key projects in the downtown. Faced with the closure
of the post office in downtown Washington (MO), the fate of the historic
building looked bleak. A handsome red brick building with arched windows
and a neo-Classical pedimented entryway, the Old Post Office was beloved
by the community since it was built in 1922. So Downtown Washington Inc.
stepped in. Working with its sister organization, the Historic
Washington Foundation, DWI bought the post office. Tax credits and
grants were applied toward restoring the exterior. To raise additional
funds, DWI's Organization Committee threw a Post Office Bash. Come hear
about this project and other examples where the local Main Street
organization stepped in to be the catalyst for development. The workshop
is free to Oregon Main Street Network communities, but registration is
required.

2. Job Opportunity: NEDCO is seeking a Main Street Program
Administrator to generate and support business vitality and investment
in core commercial districts by working closely with local
organizations, community volunteers, businesses, property owners, and
governmental agencies. Please see the attached job announcement for
additional information.

3. Congratulations to Harv Schubothe, main street coordinator in
Bandon, for being honored as one of the 2013 Ford Community Fellows
sponsored by The Ford Family Foundations. The award is given to rural
residents in Oregon and Siskiyou County, CA who have demonstrated a
commitment to community service and a dedication to the pursuit of rural
community vitality.

Ford Community Fellows are nominated by Ford Family Foundation staff
and partner contractors who deliver the Ford Institute Leadership
Program. In addition to participation in the Ford Institute Leadership
Program, these Fellows have volunteered as Ford Community Ambassadors
and assisted with the delivery of leadership development sessions in
their communities.

The Ford Community Fellows program was initiated in 2011 to honor
graduates for their work in rural communities. The first five Fellows
selected that year were from Cottage Grove, Ontario, Tillamook, Burns
and Mt. Shasta. These fellows began their work in 2012.

Fellows serve with a focus on strengthening community vitality. Each
fellow fulfills an important role by serving as a link between their
community and The Ford Family Foundation. They are the eyes and ears on
the ground on community based issues and share those observations with
community leaders and the Foundation.

Each Fellow receives a $12,000 annual unrestricted monetary award and
is eligible for up to two renewal awards. Fellows are expected to
develop their own plan to explore, learn, and practice the art of
