Oregon Heritage, a division of the Oregon Parks and Recreation
Department, will be in Coos Bay Oct. 10-11 for a free public workshop, a
commission meeting and a meet-and-greet.
The opening event is an “All Heritage” reception at The Hub building,
147 S. Broadway, Coos Bay from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 10. It is an opportunity to
meet Oregon Heritage staff and Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries
commissioners, share local heritage efforts and learn more about
available resources.
A free “Fundraising Basics” workshop will be offered from 9-11:30 a.m.
Oct. 11 at the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw
Indians Tribal Community Center, 338 Wallace Ave., Coos Bay. The
workshop will cover fundraising sources and creative planning.
The visit will wrap up with the Oregon Commission on Historic
Cemeteries meeting at 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Tribal Community Center.
Agenda items will include grant reports, current projects and upcoming
plans. The commission will invite public comments. The meeting will be
followed by a tour of Marshfield Cemetery.
“The Coos Bay area has an outstanding number of historic resources from
the North Bend and Coos Bay downtowns, to Tribal history, to the
Egyptian Theater, Coos Historical & Maritime Museum and several
cemeteries. We want to be sure the community is aware of the services we
have available to them,” noted program coordinator Kuri Gill.
Oregon Heritage provides technical assistance, grants and services to
people and organizations working with Oregon heritage and historic
