In Salem the City took $250,000 from our Parking District budget to pay for the “Downtown Enforcement Team”. It is a “team” of city police officers who supposedly are dedicated to downtown. When I asked the City Manager if the “team” goes anywhere else, she said they can be deployed anywhere in Salem where they are needed.
I feel the city police should be paid from the General Fund, like all other police officers in our city. Our downtown is now the ONLY area in Salem who has to pay for their own police protection.
