1.       Diamonds in the Rough Grant Deadline is March 31

DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH grants are to restore or reconstruct the facades of buildings that have been heavily altered over the years. The purpose is to return them to their historic appearance and potentially qualify them for historic register designation (local or national). These grants are part of the SHPO's Preserving Oregon Grant Program for the 2013-15 biennium. Grants may be awarded up to $20,000.

Note: Applications will now be submitted through an online website.

2.       "CONVERSATIONS WITH FUNDERS" SET TO TAKE PLACE BEGINNING MARCH 6
The Oregon Cultural Trust and its partners the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Heritage and Oregon Humanities will convene the first session of "Conversations with Funders: Arts, Heritage and Humanities" from 3- 5 p.m., March 6, at the Newport Visual Arts Center, 777 NW Beach Dr., Newport.
Conversations sessions will provide information about grants, resources and services that could be of value to your organization. The sessions encourage sharing ideas, needs and initiatives and provide the opportunity to connect with other cultural organizations and efforts in your area.

Conversations will continue taking place throughout the state through April 17. The next three session locations include: Washington County Museum, Education Rm., 120 E. Main St., Hillsboro (10 a.m. - noon, March 17); Clackamas County Red Soils Campus, Development Services Building, Bldg. 9, 150 Beavercreek Rd., Oregon City, (3:00pm-5:00pm, March 17); and The Studio at Hult Center, 1 Eugene Center, Eugene, (1 - 3 p.m., March 19).

3.    Rural Community Design

The Citizens' Institute on Rural Design (Note: this was formerly known as the "Our Town" program), a leadership initiative of the  National Endowment for the Arts, works with  rural communities  of 50,000 or less to enhance their quality of life and economic vitality through facilitated design workshops. CIRD's workshop program brings together local leaders, nonprofits, and community organizations with a team of specialists in design, planning, and creative placemaking to address challenges such as strengthening local economies, enhancing rural character, leveraging cultural assets, and designing efficient housing and transportation systems. Each community selected to participate in the program will receive $7,000 to support planning for and hosting a two-day workshop and will be required to provide approximately $7,000 in matching funds (cash or in-kind).

4.       Registration Now Open for the Heritage Conference

The Oregon Heritage Conference will take place April 23-25 in historic downtown Albany with the theme of "Celebrate, Recreate, Invigorate." Registration is now open. The abundance of opportunities for linking Oregon heritage and recreation will be the hub of workshops, speakers, tours, and panels. Whether you want to revitalize an organization, engage with tourists, document and preserve historic buildings and collections, advocate for support, or create new appreciation for Oregon heritage in its many forms, you will want to attend.

An engaging keynote talk, special tours, cutting-edge research expositions, and meeting colleagues from across the state are important benefits for attending. The Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards will take place on the evening of April 24. The Oregon Heritage Conference will take place at several downtown locations, with registration at the Albany Regional Museum.  The Albany Downtown Association, the Albany Visitors Association and the City of Albany are also assisting with the conference.
