How to Rally Your Community on Small Business Saturday
[msw-banner_sbs.jpg]
Black Friday is about deep discounts and long lines. Small Business Saturday, in contrast, is about a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood, meeting local business owners, bumping into friends and taking home some unique gifts. It's also a major boon to the local economy. Consumers who were aware of Small Business Saturday reported spending $5.7 billion at independent merchants on the day last year.
Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is celebrated each Saturday after Thanksgiving, and encourages local residents to shop at neighborhood stores. This year's event will take place on November 29. For Main Street communities around the nation, it's a great opportunity not only drive sales but also to bring residents downtown. Here are a few tips for ways to make the day a success.
