[OMS_MANAGERS] Grants for RARE interns?

Hi Titus,

Ever the optimist, I am back working at the RARE Program
application/funding process for the third (count them!) year in a row.

This year is lookin' good. I have been in repeated contact with Nancy
Straw the Director of Community and Economic Development for the Ford
Family Foundation. She seems quite optimistic that we would be eligible
for about $10,000. Such a sum would jump start our local fund raising and
grant writing process with a bang. We have a Committee of our Dallas
Downtown Association (DDA) formed up and working on it now. The folks on
the Committee have long term professional experience in grant writing and I
have faith that they will work this program like bulldogs.

I have taken the lead (temporarily, I hope) on all this. I am planning to
put together a coherent application of the Ford Family grant soon and work
the territory from there. We are trying to plan this so that we do not
rely on the City or Urban Renewal for this round of financing. I am,
however, thinking about a two-year cycle, where if the DDA can come up with
the money for a first year of the Program, that the City/Urban Renewal
monies will kick in for the second. I think that the idea of a two-year
cycle would serve us well here going forward and eliminate the critique we
received in this last cycle that there was no "follow-on" plan. Are you
supportive of two-year RARE Programs? I recall that you are.

Clearly we will need more sources of charitable funding this year to
supplement the Ford Family's contribution (bless them!!!). I am very
anxious to get some hot leads on other sources based on your experience.

See you in The Dalles in October if not before!
