Subject: Update: Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant

Hello,

We are in the final days of the legislative session, and I finally have some
happy news to share with you about the Oregon Main Street Revitalization
Grant Program (HB 3526). As part of the lottery bond package that was passed
out of Ways and Means, the program will receive $2.5 million in lottery
funds.

This is a real accomplishment, and it is thanks to your hard work that this
bill was funded and passed. Main Street supporters gave their testimony by
phone, letter, and in person at the committee hearings. Legislators heard
stories from main street supporters from across the state, from Port Orford
to Klamath Falls and Newburg to The Dalles. By sharing your experience with
Main Street you helped legislators understand and appreciate the value of
supporting downtown revitalization in Oregon. Our office was impressed by
the level of engagement in the Main Street community, and I believe it was
your participation that helped pass this bill.

The bill and the bonding package will officially be passed in the next day
or so. Lottery Bonds will be sold in Spring of 2017, meaning that the funds
will likely be available for projects in the summer/fall of 2017. It is now
up to Parks and Recreation to determine the roll-out and structure of the
grant program and application process.

Thank you for all your great feedback and enthusiastic support. The Speaker
is very impressed with the creativity and determination you all bring to
your work and is thrilled to see this program passed.

There are many people whom I spoke with or submitted testimony whose contact
information I do not have. I ask you to please share our happy news, and our
thanks, to anyone in the main street network.

If you have any additional questions or comments about the bill process or
the program you are welcome to reach out to our office.

Thanks again, and enjoy your Fourth of July!

Sincerely,

Robin Wright, Legislative Assistant
