Just a reminder that we will have 2 back to back workshops for our Oregon Main Street Network communities on Friday, January 19, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Independence Event Center (in the Civic Center), 555 South Main, Independence, Oregon. The workshops will be on Storytelling and the Secretary of Interior Standards for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings (see below for brief descriptions). Workshop Descriptions:
8:30 – 9:30 a.m.: Secretary of Interior Standards and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. You may have seen that the Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant program requires that projects that receive funding must be consistent with the Secretary of Interior Standards for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. These are the same standards that apply for federal historic preservation tax credits or for the Preserving Oregon grant. So what are they? Join Joy Sears, our Restoration Specialist in the State Historic Preservation Office, to learn the ins and outs of applying the standards.
10 – 11:30 a.m.: Storytelling Workshop. Building on some of the strategies from the Oregon Main Street Conference, Ryan Schwartz with Full Focus Communications will lead a 90-minute workshop about strategic storytelling. He will share the strategies, tools, and ideas you can use to shape your own stories. Each participant will leave with their own story to tell about their Main Street work.
