Happy Friday All!
Just want to remind all of you wonderful individuals that the RARE Program is currently seeking community partners for the 2017-18 service year. The deadline for community applications is slated for April 14th. This year alone, we have participants working with Greater Bandon Association, Dallas Downtown Association, City of Hermiston, City of Reedsport, Independence Downtown Association, SHEDCO, Downtown Oregon City Association, SCOEDD, Pendleton Downtown Association, Marion County Community Services and Lakeview Community Partnership on an array of Main Street related endeavors… Talk about a lineup ☺. Needless to say, we love working the downtown development arena in partnership with Oregon Main Street Program!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions about the RARE Program and/or our application process. More information can be found in the following announcement. Thanks in advance for sharing this information with organizations, Main Street-related or not, that could use our assistance.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Regards,
Titus Tomlinson
Program Coordinator

What is The RARE AmeriCorps Program?
The mission of the Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) AmeriCorps Program is to increase the capacity of rural communities to improve their economic, social, and environmental conditions, through the assistance of trained graduate-level participants. RARE participants assist in the development and implementation of projects focused on increasing the vitality of the communities and organizations we serve. Our participants live in and serve communities for 11 months. The RARE AmeriCorps Program<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=joubavzab.0.0.ba6fpzcab.0&id=preview&r=3&p=https%3A%2F%2Frare.uoregon.edu%2F> is now in its 23rd Year and has placed more than 450 individuals and served every Oregon county.
Does my Organization Qualify for The RARE AmeriCorps Program?
RARE communities are organizations that have identified specific needs in rural areas. Eligible organizations<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=joubavzab.0.0.ba6fpzcab.0&id=preview&r=3&p=https%3A%2F%2Frare.uoregon.edu%2Fcommunity%2Ffaq> include public agencies (including city, county, and regional governments); special districts (such as soil and water conservation districts, park and transportation districts); and non-profit organizations. RARE projects<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=joubavzab.0.0.ba6fpzcab.0&id=preview&r=3&p=https%3A%2F%2Frare.uoregon.edu%2Fcurrent-projects> typically fall into the following categories: land use planning, downtown development, community and economic development, regional tourism, renewable energy, food systems planning, and natural resources planning.
How Can My Organization Participate?
To host a RARE member, each participating community or agency must provide a $23,500 match towards the placement, training, and support for the full-time RARE member. RARE AmeriCorps Program staff will administer the member's monthly stipend, medical insurance, and post-service educational award. To apply, communities must submit a Community Application<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=joubavzab.0.0.ba6fpzcab.0&id=preview&r=3&p=https%3A%2F%2Frare.uoregon.edu%2Fcommunity%2Fapply-now> to the program due by 5:00 PM on April 14th. RARE AmeriCorps placements are contingent on availability of program funding.
The Ford Family Foundation<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=joubavzab.0.0.ba6fpzcab.0&id=preview&r=3&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tfff.org%2F> has limited funding available to support the placement of a RARE member. These funds are competitive.
