Main Street folks –

Yay for art! Yay for bike racks!

If you’re doing bike racks, please make sure they meet current standards. Wave racks and wheel-benders, etc. don’t tend to support the bike/allow it to be secured in two places, for example (unless people park parallel to it – removing its capacity).

Sometimes art gets in the way of function – so please work with volunteers to understand the needs of current U-lock focused bike racks.

Port Orford had bike racks made in a wave design in small quantities over several years that a local artist designed.
1. The High School did the project did the welding the first year.
2. The local community college did the project did the welding the second year.
We only had to pay for supplies and take the racks to a place for galvanizing.

Do any of you have this design or something similiar installed in your Main Street or Area?  We had a manufacturer that was going to do these but they have pulled out.  Our original contact there moved on, they recently secured a large contract and they are no longer going to do small runs/projects.

We have a grant for these that we need to complete and this design was approved.
