The Beaverton Downtown Association does not do this but other 501
organizations I work with do but only with very safe investments or
guaranteed investments which today typically pay <1% for short term and less
that 3% for 10 year investments. You also have to be careful if you have
more than ~$250K at any one bank because anything over that is not federally
insured unless you take special measures.
In long past years when short term rates were 5% and long term over 10% and
inflation was significant, investing was standard practice; as interest
rates and CPI dropped investing to earn more has become more difficult and
risky. Also if you do invest Reserve Funds for > 1 year and you run into an
emergency you have a problem.
Today non-profits I work with are earning .5% on our reserve funds but we
have complete access to them, at least 1 is looking into a 1 year Federally
Insured CD at 2.5%, 5 year CD's today are also paying 2.5%. Rates quotes are
from Google and typical of what may be available.

Hi All,
Do any of your organization invest your reserve funds? We're looking at
getting our money to earn more money, but would like to avoid reinventing
the wheel, with guidelines/bylaws/regulations.
Any advice is appreciated - any documents would be huge!
Thanks,
Sarah Lu
