Every Wednesday 2pm to 6pm.
It's time for Flowers in Downtown!
It's time for flowers in Downtown Bend. We will be planting flowers in the 50+ planters sometime in the next week or two, and we will be getting our 100 flowers baskets late May/early June (depending on weather and growth). We are also looking to create an 'adopt-a-planter' volunteer program for the non-DBBA planters (those owned by the business and/or building owners). If you'd like to volunteer, or if you'd like to be matched with a volunteer, please let us know.
Bend Oktoberfest Planning
Spring has just begun and we've already started our Bend Oktoberfest (http://bendoktoberfest.com) planning. This year, Oktoberfest will be Sept 21 and 22nd. If you are interested in being a vendor, sponsor, volunteer, or joining our leadership team - please contact us (mailto:downtownbend at gmail.com?subject=Oktoberfest%20Inquiry) . Oktoberfest is the largest fundraiser of the year for Downtown Bend. The DBBA counts on these funds to continue to offer all of our services to the Downtown District. Plus - Bend Oktoberfest (http://bendoktoberfest.com) is one of the greatest events of the year!

The DBBA – April News
April was a fun month here at the DBBA. It began to feel a lot like summer in Downtown Bend. We saw trees begin to bloom and outdoor seating appear on the sidewalks. Just a quick reminder to everyone to keep a full 4-foot ** ADA (https://www.bendoregon.gov/government/departments/city-attorney/accessibility-ada-information)
clear pathway when placing out tables, chairs, or sales racks on the sidewalk in front of your business. It is also the season for sidewalk signs – make sure you get your permit through the ** City of Bend (https://www.bendoregon.gov/home)
.
Throughout the month of April, we gathered nominations from individuals who are interested in serving on our Board of Directors. We are excited to have over a dozen new applicants! We will spend the next week gathering bios and then ballots will go out the following week. Keep your eyes on your inbox so your vote can be counted! All business and building owners are eligible to vote.
Our staff spent extra hours spring-cleaning this month. We worked hard on alleyways, trash areas, the breezeway, both mirror pond lots, and on getting graffiti out of Downtown. Please don’t hesitate to call, text or ** email (mailto:downtownbend at gmail.com?subject=Extra%20Cleaning%20Needed)
the DBBA if you see an area that needs extra cleaning, or graffiti that needs to be removed.
We are happy to report a continuing ~99% full occupancy rate in Downtown Bend, and we welcomed two new business owners to Downtown in April: Katie who will be opening Wool Town on Minnesota, and Suzanne will be opening ** Arrange Styling + Design (http://www.downtownbend.org/portfolio/arrange-styling-design)
in partnership with ** Cowgirl Cash (http://www.cowgirlcashbend.com)
in Brooks Alley. We’d also like to welcome ** Megan (http://www.downtownbend.org/downtown-fedex-has-a-new-manager/)
, the new ** Downtown Bend FedEx (http://www.downtownbend.org/downtown-fedex-has-a-new-manager/)
Manager.
Our new ** Bend Cares (https://www.facebook.com/BendCares/)
program is coming together nicely. Our website is almost finished, Facebook page is up, and we are collecting the necessary info to produce our banners and posters. As part of the Bend Cares program, we are looking for Downtown Ambassadors – both as paid staff and as volunteers. If you know someone who is interested in the job, please have them apply directly at ** downtownbend at gmail.com (mailto:downtownbend at gmail.com)
.
We are pleased to announce that the funding for the Downtown Bend Business Association was passed by a 96% vote! This means that all properties within the Economic Improvement District (** EID (http://www.downtownbend.org/about-us/the-2018-eid/)
) have elected to pay a fee of $0.25 per square foot for increased services in Downtown Bend. This EID was voted on for a term of three years.
This means that the DBBA will be able to continue existing services and expand our services to include increased security and cleaning as well as enhanced marketing. We will start work on these projects in early July when the funding for these new projects begins.
We added one new volunteer and one new (very p/t) staff member to our team, Michelle and Cori. Michelle will be helping us with grant writing and fundraising and Cori is currently helping with events (with her massive 5/hrs a week). We hope to raise her to 20-25 hours a week shortly. We are honored that we had another month with over 50 hours of volunteer work donated to our organization!
Our ** First Friday Art Walk (https://www.facebook.com/FirstFridayBend/)
efforts continue to grow. Make sure that you are connected with our First Friday ** Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/FirstFridayBend/)
and ** Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/bendfirstfriday/)
, and that you are letting Lilly or Mindy know about your FF event so that we can help promote it. We are looking for an intern or volunteer to create a First Friday Art Walk website for us. This person can come with their own set of skills – or we can train. We are excited to build a platform to further connect Downtown Businesses, Artists, and our Community. If you know someone who might be interested, please have them contact our organization.
We are proud to reveal our new Logo and Branding at our ** Downtown Bend Celebration Night (https://www.facebook.com/events/160123827990737/)
on May 24^th. Chad DeWilde with ** Wilde & Co (http://www.wearewildeco.com/)
created our new logo and branding package. ** Wilde & Co (http://www.wearewildeco.com/)
. started in Bend about 13 years ago and they have been busy making friends and creating cool stuff with them ever since. Craft Beer and Snowboarding have been their bread and butter for the last several years, but what would you expect from a company born and raised in Bend, Oregon? Over the years they have enjoyed working with ** 10 Barrel Brewing (http://www.10barrel.com/)
, ** K2 Snowboards (https://www.k2snowboarding.com/)
, ** Ride Snowboards (https://www.ridesnowboards.com)
, Budweiser, Nixon, ** Dakine (https://www.dakine.com)
, and ** Bend Brewing Company (http://www.bendbrewingco.com)
to drop just a few names. They love helping new companies figure out who they are and who they want to be. Chad helped us with our new Downtown Bend story and design, and we couldn’t be happier. Our board and staff would like to highly recommend Wilde & Co. for any of your branding needs.
Last but not least, make sure you reserve your tickets for our upcoming ** Downtown Bend Celebration Night (https://www.facebook.com/events/160123827990737/)
! This night was created in partnership with ** Bend Tel (https://www.bendtel.com)
, ** The Oxford Hotel (https://www.oxfordhotelbend.com)
, ** Bend Brewing Co (http://www.bendbrewingco.com)
, and the plethora of local businesses that donated to support Downtown Bend. We can’t wait to celebrate Downtown Bend with all of you on this special night! The party starts around 5:30pm with free appetizers, live music, cocktails samples, a silent auction, BBC beer, and much more! Logo reveal is at ~ 6 pm and the night ends at 8 pm.
