[OMS_MANAGERS] FW: What type of vehicle do you use to water your Downtown Hanging baskets?

We have a trailer with the pump and tank permanently installed, that can be pulled behind any of the smaller vehicles. It includes 50' of garden hose. Weight limit is solved, since it's on the trailer, rather than the tractor.

Once again the Albany Downtown Association’s watering vehicle is dead. I need your advice!

We have a Cub Cadet Challenger 700, but apparently we were sold the wrong model when it was purchased a few years ago (before my time). Our usual set up is a 55 gal tank, pump, hoses and watering wand – so about 500 lbs. Once we scraped off some paint overspray we saw the payload rating is 350 lbs. No wonder it broke both rear axles last year.

We downsized to 35 gal... so 291 lbs. of water when it’s 100% full + gear. That’s under 350. It takes more time going back and forth to fill the little tank but we could live with that. Then on Thursday an NEW axel broke!

Like last year, we borrowed my daughter’s mini pickup truck for a few days to figure it out. One watering attendant likes the truck and is happy double parking as needed. The other thinks the small vehicles are better so they can mostly stay on the sidewalks and avoid traffic. Before the Cub Cadet we had a little John Deere tractor and a trailer. It was a smelly, noisy diesel which disturbed upstairs residents, but oh so cute (see photo).

How are flower basket watered in your Main Street? Is it working well? Any other advice?
