We don’t regulate window painting, we regulate the amount of space you can use to advertise.

It’s a ration based on your storefront size. If this becomes interest to you, I can look up the exact code.

Subject: [OMS_MANAGERS] Window Painting

Good morning, all!

Curious if/how other municipalities regulate temporary window painting? We aren’t having any specific challenges, other than we have a few businesses using it to “advertise”, and frankly, it’s very distasteful. Having said that, we want businesses to celebrate holidays, events, etc. with window paint. We are moving toward putting together a group that would function like a downtown arts commission to assess rules for “art” in general downtown, which would include public art installations, murals, window painting, etc.

Any information is helpful, but here are some specific questions:

  1. Is temporary window paint regulated in your municipality or downtown?
  2. Is it regulated differently if it is commercial advertising vs. general art?
  3. Is a government entity the decision-making body, or are there arts councils or advisory committees that make recommendations?
  4. Is there a permit/approval process?

Thanks!
