[OMS_MANAGERS] great membership campaigns

I agree with face-to-face one-on-one for providing membership info. We have a folder with a variety of ADA info and the membership application.

We’ve had success breaking the ice by inviting prospective member business owners to our Business Owner / Building Owner Mixer held three times a year. The door prizes sometime include a ½ year trial membership, free parking and usually wine or a gift basket. We have appetizers from a member (we often trade for their dues). We have a few growlers with beer and cider and bottles of wine for self-pour or provide the first drink (with a drink ticket) if it’s at a restaurant. We’ve been holding them on a Monday evening starting at 5:15 so 9-5 service industry members and our Mayor and city partners can come from work. About half our restaurants are closed Monday’s so that helps with venues. We have also held them in fun locations like available retail spaces, lofts, a large deck, etc.

The forth quarterly event is our Downtown Albany Revitalization Awards. We announce our local winners at this event before going to the Oregon Main Street Conference and Revitalization Awards. This annual event is open to all members plus community partners (we keep the other three smaller with just owners – so 1-2 people per business … or we’d run out of space and beverages).

Thank you,

I find the personal touch of an office visit works best. It shows you care. Eddie Nelson Dallas Downtown Association.

Hello,

The Coos Bay Downtown Association is brainstorming ways to increase our membership. This past year we increased it by 30% and we want to continue that trend. That was mostly due to me doing office visits every week to try to get new members. We are wondering what other types of membership campaigns other downtowns have done to increase their membership. Letter writing, events, what is working? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Holly
