  1.  Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA): Looks like the Employment Department will be able to launch this around the end of April. PUA is a program that provides unemployment benefits to workers not typically covered by regular unemployment insurance benefits (see attached). This includes the:
• Self-employed, 1099 contract workers, and gig workers who weren’t already eligible
• Employees whose wages are not reported for unemployment insurance
• Employees who have not earned enough wages or worked enough hours for regular unemployment benefits, and
• People who were going to start work but could not.

  1.  Pamplin Media offers help to local businesses: In a show of support for small businesses, Pamplin Media Group has established a $1 million marketing matching grant fund to assist local businesses as they start to prepare to reopen in the coming months. These matching fund grants are open to local businesses, non-profits and business associations and range in value from $250 to $10,000 per month. These funds can be used on any digital and print products owned and operated by the Pamplin Media Group during the months of May or June.
