Kevin: This current organization I work for does not have a policy but
they all contribute. It's just been part of the culture from the beginning
5 years ago. There is no set amount, etc.

However, in past organizations I've worked for or consulted with there has
been a set amount based on what the board feels they can do. Initially, it
was/is an awkward discussion but it works best if the Board Chair initiates
the discussion AFTER having a one on one discussion with each board member
to find out what their personal finanical means are and how they would like
to contribute. I like what Darin related about it being a combination of
inkind volunteer time or goods of some kind from their business or probono
work, etc.

Because if feels kind of sensitive I've always approached it with having
the Board Chair do the one on one first and I think that really sets things
up for the discussion not being as awkward.

Good Luck and I too would like to know how it all rolls out for you.

Merry Christmas!!
