[OMS_MANAGERS] Board Contributions

Even when I've worked with board with a $25k buy-in, the offer was to 'give or raise'.

I'm a big believer that each member should give a meaningful amount of cash for them, and provide wisdom, work, or wealth.

So I will say that in a small nonprofit I worked for previously, the board decided to require that board members make a monetary donation and they ended up losing a board member who could not make that financial contribution but was a very visible volunteer and contributed more volunteer hours than anyone else on the board. Not only that, she was also the one board member that connected the most with visitors and pushed membership the most to those visitors. As an observer, it looked like a huge loss for the organization, more so than the amount they were requiring her to give.

I guess I am saying, consider different forms of contributions that equals the same amount, money, volunteer hours, bringing in memberships, fundraising, etc.

Hi everyone,

We are exploring requiring Board members to make a financial contribution to the organization or raise money for it. To those of you who do this, what amount do you require? Do you have exceptions? Have you encountered any problems with doing this?
