That’s probably good advice. I know it’s hard to be patient when one’s livelihood is on the line, but I would hope the delay is on the order of days, not weeks or months.

Many of our downtown contractors and self-employed people applied for unemployment already, but were declined despite meeting the qualifications. We think the system will open up more on Friday to allow for their applications for unemployment. Maybe the rest of you know that, but I was confused.
So I’d encourage you all to let them know the system may not be ready for some applications yet and not to panic.

Hi, all. We had our regional economic recovery team call earlier, and the question we asked this morning was addressed. The question was [paraphrase] “Should we tell self-employed, sole proprietors, independent contractors to go ahead and apply for unemployment benefits knowing that’s coming down the pike?”
The answer was, yes, they can apply but with a major caveat: the employment department is still working on process, rules, etc., so it may be some time before the claim is evaluated/approved. Realizing that hope is a lot of what people need right now, make sure to set the appropriate expectations.
The employment department reps on our call reported that they are actively seeking more specific guidance from the Governor’s office. If I hear anything new, I’ll pass it along.
Thanks,
D

Hi OMS directors,
Here are the notes from our call today. I don’t have the recording because I forgot to start it. Thank you for the great discussion about the stimulus package and other happenings.
Keep taking the next step!
