We just did planters in Beaverton, and we are going to be painting them, probably with some glow-in-the-dark paint.
They are about 3' long by 2' wide by 2' deep. They are made out of wood from a downtown business's pallets. They have some metal wiring on the inside to try to prevent rats from burrowing up and in. They have wheels on the bottom so that they move easily.
Building the planters ourselves saved hundreds of dollars and increased business involvement in this project a ton.
They are now a blank canvas for any style of paint that we could want. After they have served their purpose on 1st Street, we can even sell them off to downtown businesses who want planters in front of their storefronts.

Madras doesn’t have a theme for our flower pots rather we purchase the same style for all of the flower pots from Tera Casa<http://terracasa.com/> in Damascus. The owner Diana Helm is great! We’ve bot pots from them for almost 10 years and continues to keep stock of “our pots” with modest price increases.

Our City has a newly formed Citizen Advisory Group – the Arts and Culture Commission. They are about to partner with our Main Street organization for their first project, decorative planters along our Main Street. They want to be able to have different groups/artists create the different planters with a common theme. West Linn is a Bee City and that will most likely be the theme. I was wondering if any of our Oregon communities have already done a project like this and if you would share the information about your project and pictures. We are looking for ideas and feedback on different types/styles of planters that work better than others.
Thank you in advance for your input!!
