[OMS_MANAGERS] Christmas Lights

In Canby, our Parks Dept installs lights on street trees and in the City park every year. This year we were able to order extra lights to double-up the strands on street trees and we are moving to using a warmer white. I encourage business owners to create window displays and put up their own lights on buildings – especially this year!

Sincerely,

Yes, we have pole lights already established and are managed by the City. As for the lights on the buildings, we have other organizations willing to help donate funds to accomplish this initial purphas of lights and installation by professionals but the DDA is being asked to hold the contract for annual installment. Before my board votes on this contract I wanted to see what other mains street ED's are doing. Thank you so much for your input. I greatly appreciate it.

in The Dalles in the run up to christmas lights in 2019
our holiday light string were in bad shape
so we did a fund raiser and bought new multi-colored strings at 30$ each
with the intention to have them up year round and change colors for different holidays/events/parades

the City Manager was at first against the notion. Somehow we got traction
and subsequently established an agreement to keep them up year round.

The Dalles Main Street Program has one of the board members leading "The Light Brigade"
a group of 5 or so volunteers that changes light colors from time to time
and replaces the failing strands.

our 30$ strings are experiencing about 15% failure rate.
So, we are now replacing as the old ones fail with new 55$ strands
we have 240 old timey style lightpoles around town on which the strands are mounted

our initial fundraising campaign
got people to donate so that they could "Adopt a Pole"
and we put a laminated 2" x 3" card on those poles with the name of the person they wanted to recognize
grand kids , kids, or even businesses

when we put up the strings in 2019, we had the help of the local PUD boom trucks to get em up.

give a shout if you need more info

Our businesses downtown buildings are in need of Christmas lights and we have an opportunity to have some installed and maintained by a professional company. The proposed contract is being presented to the Dallas Downtown Association and if accepted would be responsible for annual installation.

My question is, who in your district manages the Christmas lights on Main St buildings and do you have to pay for installation every year or do your lights stay up throughout the year?

If you do, what do you do to support those efforts? Is there a business that you go through that has competitive pricing and lastly, how many quotes did you receive before making a determination?

Thank you in advance for all your input.
