I sat in on the Travel, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation webinar this week. Here's my takeaways for this program:

  *   $510 million are direct, non-competitive grant allocations to states to support travel and tourism. Letters were sent to Governor's this week who can designate a state agency or eligible entity to receive the grant.

     *   This bucket of funds can be used for

o Tourism marketing & promotion

o Workforce training around this industry sector

o Economic development planning

o Technical assistance projects to assist with economic recovery from the damage to the travel, tourism, and outdoor recreation industry

o Upgrades to existing travel, tourism, and outdoor recreation infrastructure

o New infrastructure that lead to long term increases in tourist activity

     *   Priority is for projects that help recover not just today but for the long term
     *   States have 60 days to apply for the grant with awards made by November. Last day to incur costs is May 2027.

  *   $240 million are competitive grants to support development and implementation of community economic development strategy for travel, tourism, and outdoor recreation

  *   Funds can't be used for tourism promotion and marketing - only the state level
  *   Nonprofits must be supported by local government
  *   Applications opened on July 23 and will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis with applicants encouraged to apply by March 31, 2022 and all awards by September 2022. Project period ends May 31, 2027.
