The Excellence on Main awards honor the people, the projects, and the activities that are outstanding achievements across Oregon in enhancing the sense of place of our historic downtowns and traditional commercial districts. Attached is info about the awards, the award categories, nomination questions, and more.

A New Report on the State of Housing
With the generous support of the 1772 Foundation, Main Street America's Research team recently launched the "At Home on Main Street" project, a four-part housing research initiative that aims to provide action-oriented recommendations and support the network in strengthening Main Streets through thoughtful housing development. Here's an example of one of their webinars that might be a good fit for main street: Streetscape Design Strategies for Historic Districts - 75 minute on-demand course: Streetscapes in historic districts are often redesigned without recognition of the unique historic features, such as pavement, street trees, and lighting, that defined the street during the period of significance. In many communities, after detailed preservation goals for historic architecture have been established, inappropriate lighting, decorative pavement, and flowering trees are randomly selected to 'beautify' the street. This introduction to the history of the American streetscape presents strategies to design attractive streets that are historically appropriate.
