Just Three Weeks Left to Apply for Restore Oregon's

2022 DeMuro Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation

Annual preservation award aims to honor projects that demonstrate extraordinary design, craftsmanship, creative problem-solving, and community impact



PORTLAND, OR--May 24, 2022--Just weeks remain to apply for Restore Oregon's annual DeMuro Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation, the state's highest honor for the preservation, reuse, and revitalization of architectural and cultural sites. DeMuro-award winning projects serve as educational inspiration for preservation and reuse and illustrate best practices for using historic places and spaces as tools to solving current challenges such as insufficient affordable housing, stalled economic development, and resiliency from climate change.


What: The nomination period for applications to the 2022 DeMuro Awards is open until June 10, 2022.  A jury of professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering, planning, and historic preservation select award-winning projects based on the following criteria:

*        Rehabilitation/redevelopment of a structure, public space or cultural landscape at least 50 years old.

*        Compatible addition to a historic building or infill development (new construction) within a historic district.

*        Project completed in Oregon within the last five years (2017-Present).

*        Self nominations are welcome.

*        Previous applicants (that haven't been awarded) may re-apply.

*        Creative or unique approach to design, adaptive reuse, and problem solving in the field of historic preservation.

*        Exceptional quality of engineering, craftsmanship, materials, standards and degree of difficulty of the project.

*        Positive impact of the project on the community (cultural, economic or environmental).
