  1.  OMS Conference Update

Wow - what a fantastic week we have had in Klamath Falls for the OMS Conference! Klamath Falls Downtown Association and partners have made all feel welcome to the community which has richly added to the conference experience. It has been a joy to bring everyone back together for a shared learning experience and for the opportunity to network. For those who weren't able to join us for the opening keynote and awards, the session was recorded and we will be posting within a couple weeks on our website. For now, we are looking forward to the closing day of sessions and our inaugural Open Door Pitch Contest!

  1.  DOT Thriving Communities Program
Today, the Department of Transportation released information and the notice of funding opportunity for the Thriving Communities program. DOT has engaged with MSA throughout the development of this program, and we're excited to see that one of the three main areas of the program is devoted to "Main Streets" (though the definition is perhaps a little broader than our exact work). It also appears that there is an opportunity for individual local communities to submit themselves as recipients of TA through this program (see highlight).   1.  Save the Date: Neighborhood Champions Applications Open Mid-October
For 13 years, the Shop Small(r) movement has helped rally communities around the businesses they love. The Main Street America network has been a proud supporter since the beginning, starting with the launch of Small Business Saturday in 2010. MSA is honored to once again team up with American Express to help rally communities to support their local businesses, culminating with Small Business Saturday on November 26, 2022. They hope you'll join them to help make this year an even bigger success by serving as a 2022 Neighborhood Champion and want to make this a record-breaking year for Main Street's participation in both celebrating and supporting small businesses!

As in past years, all Main Street America members have been pre-qualified to serve as Neighborhood Champions on a first-come, first served basis. All you have to do is fill out a brief Neighborhood Champion application and indicate you were referred by the Main Street America network*. The application opens in mid-October and will remain open until mid-November, or until all the spaces are filled. Complimentary merchandise kits will begin shipping towards the end of October, so we recommend signing up as early as possible to receive your kit with plenty of time to get prepared before Small Business Saturday on November 26th  this year.
