Hello Cam,

I am new to the OMS community. I just met with the Carlton Business
Association board this evening to go over details for this opportunity. I
have had the form open for days, which doesn't state the 5pm time deadline.
I failed to cross-reference the email a second time to recall there was a
5pm time deadline.

Please let me know if you are able to accept late submissions. I am very
disappointed that I didn't recall the time deadline until it was too late.

Here are our answers just in case.

Best, Kim

Briefly share your project or idea.

Over the last five years the city of Carlton has established a holiday
spirit that is here to stay. So much so, the city has gone from a single
lit tree in the community park in 2017, to one of the best light displays
in Yamhill County in a branded effort called “Christmas in Carlton
<https://www.christmasincarlton.com/>.” This is a month-long series of
events with the sole purpose of bringing families and the community
together to spread the holiday spirit.

We have grown to host numerous annual events like the craft fair, bike
light parade, Christmas light contest, Winter Gala, Santa Dash 5k, etc.
We’d love to enhance our season of holiday spirit by adding some free
programming that brings various generations together and builds memories
that become traditions.

We would like to invest the grant dollars to host an epic Gingerbread House
Competition at the iconic Legion Hall in Carlton. Similar to the
famous Sunriver
Resort <https://www.sunriverresort.com/gingerbread>Gingerbread Junction,
where people travel from near-and-far to view amazing displays of
engineered confections. This is a rare yet compelling activity that people
of all ages can look forward to year-after-year.

We would recruit teams from local schools, non-profits, businesses and the
community at large to create gingerbread masterpieces to be on display for
a few weeks in December. We would use these funds to recruit contestants
and spectators via social media, websites, newspapers, etc. We would use
about half of the funds to offer cash prizes to winners. Our hope is that
school groups, sports teams, non-profits, businesses, etc will use the
prize money for their own fundraising and/or donation efforts. With your
support and funding this event will offer a fun, safe, and free way to
celebrate the holidays, and lean into our mission to grow our community’s
holiday spirit through the traditions of “Christmas in Carlton.”

How does this project or idea meet your organization's goals for being more
welcoming?

Christmas in Carlton is an all-inclusive concept for bringing people safe,
fun and affordable experiences during the holiday season. A refreshing
distraction from the focus on commercialism that is so present during this
time of year. It is important that this event is free and fun for all.

Tell us how you will be able to complete the project by the deadline (e.g.
do you have the necessary partners in place or volunteer support?)

We are currently in the planning process of Christmas in Carlton 2023. If a
decision is made in October, this would give us plenty of time to execute
this concept in December 2023. We have confirmed availity with the Legion
Hall and have the promotion ideas and community outreach plans ready for
action.

Our long-term plan is to leverage the success of the 2023 Gingerbread
Competition to recruit sponsors in following years to keep this tradition
alive.

Why is this project or idea important to your community?

Christmas in Carlton has become a way of life during the holiday season. We
have a dream of becoming the next big Christmas town. But for now, we love
the intimate holiday spirit we bring to our local residents and surrounding
communities. It’s an honor to bring joy during this time of year.
