February 2023 Newsletter LA GRANDE MAIN STREET DOWNTOWN About Us Support Our Mission Hello OMS, February is moving along and LGMSD is busy planning unique and fun events for the year. Our Valentine’s Day event is happening right now and we have two events centering on and around St. Patrick’s Day in the works--the St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl on March 17th and the Shamrock Shuffle 5K and 10K!. For Valentine’s Day, LGMSD has a Shopping and Dining Guide on our website. Our theme of “Love is All Around La Grande” will be taken up by asking residents of La Grande (online and in office) what they love about our lovely city and the businesses and services that they patronize and sharing their responses. Click here to see the guide. There is still time to send your favorite business a Valentine. In March, we will be bringing back an old favorite back from hiatus---the St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl. On Friday, March 17th, folks will meet at Marketplace Fresh Foods to begin our St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl. The cost is only $15, which includes a koozie, a map, and a lanyard to ride the bus for free. Each of the stops will have a cocktail/mocktail special and a food special—there will be transportation and raffle prizes for gift cards from each participating business. Check out our Facebook page or click HERE for more information and registration. Then, on Saturday, March 18th, LGMSD will be hosting the Shamrock Shuffle 5K & 10K. The fun will include prizes, a DJ, finish line photos and much more. Be sure to dress up and show off your St Patrick’s Day spirit (and maybe win a prize). Shuffle over to our Facebook event to register now to be sure you snag the much coveted Shamrock Shuffle shirt with your entry! A member training and mixer is being developed for this spring to provide an opportunity for everyone to get to know one another and learn more about the organization's goals and initiatives. The Outreach Committee is also starting plans for a Downtown Clean Up Day which will hopefully be scheduled in the coming months to make a positive impact in the community. Beer Fest Committee - Stephanie Hansen The Beer Fest committee is making strides at making this year's event a great one. The monthly meetings are beneficial for getting updates from team captains. It's also an opportunity for the director to share new businesses that have become members of Main Street. We have discussed our budget at length and are now in a position to make commitments on entertainment, advertising, sponsorships and merchandise. We are deciding on a venue for the VIP party scheduled for August 18th, we have discovered we have the glasses, entertainment, food and equipment necessary to make this a great event. We have identified sponsors that are committed to the event, brewers, craft and food vendors, and entertainment. A volunteer list has been created and continues to grow as more call in. At this time we have more than enough volunteers for set up, day of, and tear down this year. We are making great progress thanks to consistent communication, but recognize there is still work to do. We want to bring in ciders this year and we are doing outreach and recruitment to ensure that happens. A team of committee members will be traveling to other Beer Festivals in the area to learn, grow and recruit, and everyone seems to be excited about where we are at this point. Design Committee - Evie Stacey & Cassie Hibbert Our priority items are plugging the flower basket sponsorship opportunities and the ongoing facade grant opportunities. Special thank you to EOU Football for helping take down the holiday wreaths downtown! Meet LGMSD Check out the newest feature on the LGMSD webpage: Meet LGMSD. Each week, we take you behind the scenes to introduce you to the folks that make us who we are—the Board, the Committees, the volunteers, and the staff. Each week, we plan to introduce you to one of the many individuals who contribute so much to La Grande Main Street and ultimately making La Grande a vibrant, stable, beautiful place to gather, shop, eat, work, live, and play. So far, we have profiled Mary Ann Miesner, the President of our Board of Directors and Joshua Annas, the Vice-President of our Board of Directors. Next week we will be featuring Shawna McKinnis, the Secretary of our Board of Directors. Check it out on our website at: https://www.lagrandemainstreet.org/news About Town Returns About Town’s intrepid reporter returns to our webpage with another adventure in La Grande. This Friday, the quest will involve taking a class from Art Center East entitled “Lush Canvas: A Night with Georgia O’Keeffe” where the class will be painting lilies in the style of the aforementioned Ms. O’Keeffe using a variety of techniques in acrylics. Our intrepid reporter will have a painting to keep and a story to tell—look for it on the LGMSD webpage next week!
