The grant opens for applications on November 6. Events should reflect the 2024 theme: Fear and Belonging. Grantees are welcome to interpret this theme and develop topics that are relevant to their communities. Public, volunteer, community college, and tribal libraries and library branches that are located in (or adjacent to and serving) rural or frontier zip codes are eligible. Business Oregon Opens Grant Program to Support Rural Communities: Last week, Business Oregon announced a Request for Grant Applications (RFGA) for the 2023-2025 Rural Opportunity Initiative (ROI) Grant Program. ROI is an investment in the vision and proficiency of rural communities and aligns with Business Oregon's strategic plan to grow local businesses, cultivate rural economic stability, and champion opportunities for underrepresented Oregonians. The Oregon Legislature has allocated $2 million to the ROI Grant Program for the current biennium. Small businesses and entrepreneurs drive rural economies and are a major source of growth opportunity. In addition to supporting entrepreneurship and small business growth, ROI's emphasis on cultivating a healthy ecosystem helps build resiliency and makes businesses more likely to survive a crisis by having access to a full complement of resources. By focusing on ecosystem development, ROI helps entrepreneurs thrive in the good times and recover after disruptions. This RFGA will close on October 27, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. PDT. An evaluation committee comprised of internal and external stakeholders will review applications and make funding recommendations with Notices of Intent to Award expected by December 15, 2023.

Save the Date - Shop Small Neighborhood Champion Opens in Early October: For 14 years, the Shop Small(r) movement has helped rally communities around the businesses they love. The Main Street America network has been a proud supporter since the beginning, starting with the launch of Small Business Saturday in 2010. MSA is honored to once again team up with American Express to help rally communities to support their local businesses, culminating with Small Business Saturday on November 25, 2023. The application opens in early October and will remain open until mid-November, or until all the spaces are filled. Complimentary merchandise kits will begin within the first week of the application opening, so MSA recommends signing up as early as possible to receive your kit with plenty of time to get prepared before Small Business Saturday on November 25th this year.
As in past years, all Main Street America members have been pre-qualified to serve as Neighborhood Champions on a first-come, first served basis. Space is limited so claim your spot before applications close. All you need to do is fill out a brief Neighborhood Champion application and indicate you were referred by the Main Street America network*. You can read more about the Neighborhood Champion program on the American Express website.<https://www.mainstreet.org/blogs/national-main-street-center/2023/09/25/save-the-date-small-business-saturday-neighborhood>
