There is just one day left to get the best rate possible to attend the 2024 Oregon Heritage Conference. Early Bird registration will end March 14 at which point registration costs will go up.

The Oregon Heritage Conference is a space for anyone doing heritage preservation work in Oregon to come together and share insights, understand connections, develop relationships, learn new ways, reinforce the value of the work and leave energized to keep moving forward. With all of the demands on people including information overload, home life, work tasks and all the things, the 2024 conference will be a place to Make Space by helping to clear the clutter, set priorities, build relationships, and plan for the time it takes.

Plenary Speakers:
* Enjoy a lively exploration of word histories, linguistic differences, and bias toward non-mainstream dialects with Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett from A Way with Words<https://www.waywordradio.org/podcasts>.
* Build understanding with Matika Wilbur and Project 562<https://www.project562.com/blog>
Sessions the might be of interest to Main Street folks as they directly relate to engaging more people, strengthening your organization, and expanding your impact:
* Reflective Conversations: Facilitating Challenging Conversations with your Board and Staff. Learn effective ways to guide your board and staff through conversations that might be sensitive, uncomfortable, or just complex. Oregon Humanities will share their excellent information in this workshop great for any heritage organization.
* Oral History Projects on a Shoestring. Hands-on workshop designed to equip participants with practical skills for developing low-cost oral history projects within their cultural organizations. Led by experienced professionals from the University of Oregon Libraries and Oregon State University Libraries & Press, this workshop will orient participants to best practices for every stage of the oral history life cycle.
* Catalyze your community through Cultural Districts. A Creative & Cultural District is a mixed-use area of a community in which a high concentration of cultural facilities and events that serve as the anchor of attraction to residents and visitors. At this session explore how a cultural district can provide vibrant and appealing environment to position the community as a cultural tourism destination while supporting existing residents.
* Making Space For Valuing And Engaging Diverse Partners. Take a seat at the table. Oregon's Kitchen Table staff will lead a session on ways to bring more voices to the table. This session will include an overview of our approach to expanding community engagement for important decisions, including stories of past projects. We will also lead a discussion with attendees about the issues or decisions they are seeing in their work and then conduct an activity to consider how to bring more voices to give input on those issues.
* 20 Questions Directors Should Be Asking. Join us for a dynamic conference session exploring the principles of effective governance and financial oversight in organizations. Emphasizing the pivotal role of directors, this session will focus on dedicating time to governance, attending regular meetings, and actively engaging in organizational affairs. With a spotlight on financial matters, the session will cover discussions on oversight, consistent financial statement preparation, and the critical need for state and federal compliance. Walk away with invaluable insights into governance best practices, financial stewardship, and the cultivation of a collaborative organizational culture.
* Succession Planning for Small Nonprofits. If your board chair or executive director resigned tomorrow, do you know what the first thing your board would need to do? If not, it's time to think about developing your succession plan to ensure a smooth transition of leadership for your organizational stability! Join us for an interactive and collaborative discussion that aims to empower you with actionable strategies for cultivating leadership continuity. The facilitator will guide participants through a dynamic conversation, encouraging the sharing of experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches to succession planning in resource-constrained environments.
* Advocacy for effective public policy
