Hello Main Street Folks!

The Certified Local Government (CLG) program is a National Park Service (NPS) preservation program supported by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), to do historic preservation work at the local level. Local governments establish a preservation program with a commission or board to lead the work. SHPO hosts an annual fall workshop for the CLGs.

Some of your organizations are in CLG communities and hopefully you work together. CLG and Main Street are a great pairing!

This year, the content is also a perfect fit for Main Street organizations, so SHPO is opening up the workshop to Main Street organizations too.

The agenda is set (mostly) for the 2024 CLG workshop!

Thanks to the city of Dallas for helping host our first in-person CLG workshop since 2019. The plan is to have in-person every other year and online the opposite year.

The workshop is for staff and board/commission members of CLGs. And this year, we are inviting Oregon Main Street Network organizations to join us.

John Sandor, one of the Federal Historic Tax Credit reviewers from the National Park Service will be joining us to talk about standards, alternative materials, windows, storefronts and tax credits. Plus, we will have some excellent CLG sharing and example projects. And a highlight for the day will be a walking tour of the newly designated historic downtown.
