We list Halloween on our website, hang posters, create an event on Facebook and post on Instagram, but no app. We don’t list the individual businesses, but if anyone is doing anything different or special, we post the info on Facebook & Instagram about that particular thing. In addition to Trick or Treating at the businesses, we usually have one or two that create a haunted house or have cookie decorating, etc. We have a few buildings where the businesses all band together and create a theme and they all dress in the theme and they create a booth out front of the building so all the businesses can participate, not just those with first floor storefronts. I also encourage the nonprofits and other organizations around town to come down and have a booth.
Our organization organizes a pumpkin decorating contest between the businesses (pumpkins donated by a Market vendor) and the pumpkins get judged by those attending the event. We also have a scavenger hunt for the kids and depending on how many clues they find, they get different amounts of (non-candy prizes). Since our volunteers are so busy running those activities, the Mayor hands out candy at our booth and other City Councilors take turns helping with that and at our photo booth.
We used to get about 500 kids, but over the past 3 years we have grown tremendously. We are in the metro area, so we have a larger area to pull from. We get about 1600 kids, over 3000 visitors (kids and parents) according to the data we pulled. We back to the Historic District so around 5:30 our crowd starts thinning and they all head to that area, by 6 the kids are all gone.

We don’t do any special advertising for the businesses in town. Our small town has very few store fronts so downtown trick or treating is small. BUT!! That being said, we do have an extremely well attended Trunk or Treat sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. It is held in the High School Parking lot with about 20-25 trunks all set up. 3 years ago, we had about 150 trick or treaters, and some of the parents dressed up! It was a blast! Word has spread like wildfire and last year, we estimate over 350 kids if all ages came with parents in tow. And last year most of the parents came in costume as well. Families went from one small town to the next, and everyone had a grand time! Our town has a population of 1200. So 350 kids means they came from all over.
To paraphrase that famous line from “Field of Dreams” …..”If you feed them, they will come!”
Happy trick or treating everyone! Now, to decide on my costume this year……

Hello,
Is there an app you all use to list what businesses are participating in trick or treating?
