Kelly shared the important role local programs play in advocacy including talking Main Street America’s priorities and efforts in DC and how they impact local programs. She did a great job in making the link between what happens at the national and state level to help better understand what advocacy can look like at the local level.

In town early? Head over to the Albany Regional Museum for their free monthly History Bites. This month’s presentation is Embalming in the American Civil War.

The American Civil War was significant in creating what is our contemporary funeral economy and funeral practices when caring for the deceased. Oscar Hult, historian and owner of the Natty Dresser, will present on mid-nineteenth century embalming practices, its history, and more. Light Refreshments provided.
Albany Regional Museum is waiving admission to the museum for conference attendees if you show your OMS conference badge during the week of the conference. Starting with Albany’s founding in the early 1850s, the Museum’s exhibits follow the dynamic development of a city that by the early 1900s would grow to be one of the most prosperous in the state. Explore exhibits filled with a vibrant history of colorful characters, booming industry, and explosive events.
Trolley of Terror: OMS Conference Exclusive Opportunity
Thursday, October 9, 2025, 7pm or 8pm
Tickets $20 each. Limited to 25 per tour. Tours begin and end at the Monteith House Museum, 518 Second St SW. Board the trolley to ride in style as a guide recounts terrifying tales of unexplainable encounters in the downtown Albany area of more than 20 locations. After the trolley tour, you will be invited inside the Monteith House to hear some of the chilling ghostly tails that have been experienced within its walls. (approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes) Monteith tours raise funds to help support the Monteith Historical Society's mission to continue to preserve Albany's first frame house and its collection of pioneer artifacts, as well as provide educational opportunities for the public. Arts Builds Community: The new / FY2026 guidelines are now posted on the Oregon Art Commission’s  website here<https://www.oregon.gov/biz/aboutus/artscommission/Documents/Grant%20Guidelines/ABC_FY26_Guidelines.pdf>. Applicants may start their applications now since all questions are included in the guidelines. The online grants portal will be “live” and ready to accept submissions on September 1, 2025.

Historic Window Workshop, Albany, Sept. 19-20 - Campaign for Historic Trades<https://historictrades.org/>, a nonprofit dedicated to hands-on training in traditional preservation is putting on a Historic Window Workshop taking place in Oregon on September 19-20. This workshop will provide participants with practical, hands-on experience in window preservation techniques, including removal, repair, and finish restoration. It’s designed for preservation professionals, historic property owners, and anyone interested in learning about or maintaining the craftsmanship of historic windows.
We would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word to your network. Registration is currently open, and space is limited, so early sign-up is encouraged.
