<div>May is National Historic Preservation Month and a time for "Celebrating<br>
America's Treasures". Communities throughout Oregon are sharing<br>
significant historic sites and buildings that tell the stories of their<br>
past and recognizing contributions that individuals and organizations<br>
make to local preservation projects. <br>
<br>
“We encourage the public to tour historical sites found in Oregon,”<br>
said Roger Roper, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer. “Take<br>
the opportunity to attend an educational event featuring an aspect of<br>
Oregon’s history or historic preservation; explore the state’s vast<br>
heritage resources online; or become a member of a local preservation<br>
organization,” he added.<br>

information about Oregon’s historic places. From there, plan your<br>
adventure using the Oregon Historic Sites Database to locate historic<br>
places listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Search for<br>
your favorite lighthouses, old houses, commercial buildings, or schools<br>
and plan your visit. <br>
-- Explore one of Oregon’s many unique historic downtowns. <br>
-- Stroll through historic neighborhoods and local museums. <br>
-- Tour a recently completed preservation project.<br>
-- Take a hike along one of Oregon’s 16 historic trails.<br>
-- Enjoy a state park and discover an historic site.<br>
-- Visit a local historic cemetery and participate in preservation<br>
