Hi Annie,

Sherwood has done two of these so far. Unfortunately it wasn't my idea so it isn't going through Main Street, but the good thing about that is they are targeting businesses throughout the whole community. I think it's a great idea to use to keep people excited about shopping your district during construction as long as any concerns about parking and accessibility are addressed. Sherwood does it once a month, but you might want to consider doing it once a week if getting through the construction is your focus, then maybe drop down to once every other week or something after that. I think if you do it too often it takes the anticipation and excitement away. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes! :)

Anyway, my see answers below :) . . .

Angi Ford
Sherwood Main Street
503-625-7800

The City of Canby will soon undergo a major redevelopment project in May that involves redeveloping 4 blocks of our downtown (undergrounding utilities, new sidewalks, new parking lot.) The majority of our downtown businesses are located
on this street and many businesses are concerned with the construction disrupting their businesses. We are looking to coordinate these “cash mobs” as a way to support businesses affected by the construction, but I wanted to ask those of you who are familiar

Any other tips and tricks. Those who have organized it here came up with a list of all the businesses they wanted to invite and contacted them to be sure they would want to be mobbed and that they would prepare extra product for their mob day. The first business that was mobbed pulled the next business name out of a hat. Only them and two of the organizers are there for that part (it is done after the mob is over) and they video tape it. (I'm guessing for proof of no favoritism???) The business selected is notified about two weeks before their mob date. The date is posted to the public as soon as it is determined, but the location is kept a secret for about 24-48 hours before. I think the only place they post it is on their Facebook page. Here are a few more details I pulled of their website, "locally owned Sherwood business that offers a retail or dining store front that caters to both men and women and has a variety of goods in stock available for purchases for under $20"
