The workshop will feature Bridgette Epple,
executive director of Downtown Washington, Inc., a 2013 Great
American Main Street award winning community. Under her tenure, the program
was the active developer of a few key projects in the downtown. Faced with the
closure of the post office in downtown Washington (MO), the fate of the
historic building looked bleak. A handsome red brick building with arched
windows and a neo-Classical pedimented entryway, the Old Post Office was
beloved by the community since it was built in 1922. So Downtown Washington
Inc. stepped in. Working with its sister organization, the Historic Washington
Foundation, DWI bought the post office. Tax credits and grants were applied
toward restoring the exterior. To raise additional funds, DWI's Organization
Committee threw a Post Office Bash. Come hear about this project and other
examples where the local Main Street organization stepped in to be the
catalyst for development. The workshop is free to Oregon Main Street Network
communities, but registration is required.
