The park ranger program is run in cooperation with Parks & Rec and the McMinnville Police Department. The department trains the rangers to cite for minor offenses, carry radios and monitor behaviors in two of the city’s parks. Since City Park adjoins our historic district, the MDA has paid for the extension of the program in our own 36-block district. Patrols begin in late April or early May and run through the first week in October. They have really helped us, not only in keeping people moving downtown, but as tourism ambassadors. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#1F497D'>Our cost the first year was $10,000, which we had to take out of our reserves. Last summer, we could only afford $6,000 and our hope is that the city will step in to pay for them 100 percent in the future.
