Sherwood is very similar to Sandy. We allow for 6-8 vendors set up
pop-ups (3-4 in our park, 3 near our promenade/library and one by
our Center for the Arts), we don't charge the vendors nor do we let
them sell anything (it would change our permit). We ask businesses
who are new to Sherwood if they want to participate to get their
name out there. We have vendors who want to return each year. They
can advertise and hand out info but they have to dress up in costume
and either provide candy or a game. We have one religious
organization that is sponsored by their community outreach program.
The local businesses that participate hand out candy and do whatever
they want and we help supplement their candy supply in case they run
out. We hold a pet costume contest and have photo spots with hay
bales and backdrops for a family picture. We counted 2000 people at
our event in 3 hours. Gregg Jacot - Sherwood....Text me if you have
more questions. 503 502-6419
for many years now. It is run by our Chamber of Commerce now
rather than Sandy Main Street (which sadly is no more), but
participation is huge. More than half of all businesses in
downtown Sandy participate now -- even some of those that are
normally closed on a Saturday have been opening up for the
event. It's a great way to promote local business. Last year
we counted something like 1,600 kids participating -- this
doesn't count parents or guardians....just kids in costume.
We have a population of just over 11,000.

<div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:trebuchet

businesses -- we do have a few businesses that have outside
vendors that come and "help" them hand out candy and
promotional stuff -- but it's only a handful, and we don't
really allow businesses from outside Sandy to come in and set
up shop for this event. The reason is that this event is
primarily a retail/service business awareness event,
in that we are trying to show locals what stores we have
downtown so they don't feel like they have to drive to Gresham
or Portland (nothing against those two cities, of course!) to
do their shopping when we have stores downtown that they might
not know about. You might think that the locals already know
what is in their downtown, but we are constantly surprised by
how many do not know. For instance, we have a "new" meat
market downtown that has been in business for more than a year
(opened August 2017), and they still get multiple customers every
day that say "I had no idea you were here!", even
though they literally drive by the store every day on their
way to work. Dolly's Pet Shop moved from one downtown
location to another one literally two blocks away on the same
street, and she still gets one or two a month that say "I
thought you went out of business years ago!" or "When did you
decide to open up shop again!" She moved over 4 years ago.
