We had our regional economic recovery team call earlier, and the question we asked this morning was addressed. The question was [paraphrase] “Should we tell self-employed, sole proprietors, independent contractors to go ahead and apply for unemployment benefits knowing that’s coming down the pike?” <br><br>The answer was, yes, they can apply but with a major caveat: the employment department is still working on process, rules, etc., so it may be some time before the claim is evaluated/approved. Realizing that hope is a lot of what people need right now, make sure to set the appropriate expectations. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The employment department reps on our call reported that they are actively seeking more specific guidance from the Governor’s office.
