Good afternoon,

Attached, please find the Sex Offense Treatment Continuum provided by the Oregon Youth Authority. Please contact Jeff Rodin, Treatment Services Coordinator at 503-480-6808 or JeffreyRodin at oya.state.or.us<mailto:JeffreyRodin at oya.state.or.us>, to share your feedback or if you have any questions.

Background
OYA received feedback from internal and external partners regarding inconsistencies in sex offense treatment service and documentation within OYA youth correctional facilities. As a result, over the past year, project workgroups performed an in-depth analysis of the sex offense treatment continuum within OYA's youth correctional facilities. They discussed and created recommendations related to assessment, treatment, documentation, training, transition to the community, and outcome measures.

The workgroups were comprised of professionals and executive team members from within OYA and external stakeholders, including a Circuit Court referee, a county juvenile department supervisor, community-based sex offense treatment providers, contracted residential treatment providers, and representatives from the Oregon Adolescent Sex Offense Treatment Network (OASOTN).

To inform their recommendations, the workgroups consulted with a variety of experts from the field on assessments and treatment philosophy. These experts included Dr. Jim Worling, creator of the ERASOR and PROFESOR assessment tools; David Prescott, nationally known for his work in the field; and local clinical psychologist Greg Czar.

What to Expect

  * OYA will transition from the use of the ERASOR to the PROFESOR as its primary sex offense-specific assessment.
  * Consistent treatment components and interventions across youth correctional facilities.
  * Documentation enhancements, including a sex offense-specific treatment plan and comprehensive treatment summaries.

We will be developing a program manual with more detailed information on each component and would be happy to provide that to partners at their request.
Please Share Your Feedback
OYA is committed to an ongoing assessment of treatment services and practices that support positive outcomes for youth. We will be monitoring and modifying the implementation of workgroup recommendations as we go and are open to feedback about your experiences with our new processes.
