MessageBetty,
There are several white pages listings online. The one I use the most is http://anywho.com/index.html but I could not find a Harold Becker. There are several other Beckers however. Possibility that they have moved. Might try Portland area. Good luck.

Hi Mary,
I used to live in Portland and I had a very dear friend in OC, and haven't heard from her for years, she doesn't respond to my Christmas Cards, I wonder if you could do a 'look up' in the phone book for me.. Her name is Dorothy Becker, her husband's name is Harold. They lived on Mollala Ave.. Thanks in advance. Hope the cookies didn't burn.

Happy Holidays to all of you. You are keeping me from my baking.
I well remember winter of 49-50. We were new from other side of the Cascades and thought it weird that my husband was sent home from work because it was "too cold". He bundled up our little ones and pulled them up and down the street on a new sled in Oregon City, singing "Muuule Traaaaain". No one else was out and about......Mary, still in OC

Well, guess we were "all" in Medford in 48/49. Actually, we were living with my grandparents on Bellinger Lane, at Minear Road, towards Jacksonville.
Just the other day I was telling my daughter about the donuts we watched being made in a store window in Medford. They were batter donuts that plopped out in little circles into hot fat. Yummm.
Anyone remember that store?
I also remember the "silver thaw", but we didn't call it that, as I recall. I do remember the permanent rash around the legs from wet boots.
Before Medford, we lived in Seneca, Kinzua and Camp Five (which I understand was also called Wetmore). Now, *there* were some winters! Of course I was a small child, so was probably protected more, but I remember taking the "Goose" from Kinzua to Camp Five because the roads were closed and that was the only way to get there.
Pat (in Tucson, where the low was about 40 degrees last night, scheduled to be 70 today)

I was living in Medford by June of '49 but do remember the Columbia River freezing over in Dec. of '48. Lived in Montavilla until I was 12 (1840) then in Parkrose until 1949. Remember walking to school during the silver thaws and the east wind - lots of fun. Missed the rain when I first came down here. Ah, nostalgia!
