Yes, "Oregon Burial Site Guide" is the most comphrensive state-wide
guide to burial sites ever assembled for Oregon. But, to clarify, that
is all it is -- a detailed listing of where these cemeteries and other
burial locations are and how to get to them, not who is buried there,
except for the single burials and some small private cemeteries where
some occupants are listed. Within it's stated scope, it is an excellent
work.

The notes at the opening of the book indicate that the primary compiler,
Dean Byrd, was the actual compiler of the 1978 Cemetery Survey for the
State of Oregon. He indicates he was aware of the shortcomings of that
publication, and after he retired from state government, he became
inspired to produce a more complete volume, which, with the help of a
few other dedicated volunteers and friends, has now been done.

It's shortcomings are that little research was done on the history of
certain burying grounds -- once they were located, end of story. There
is no resolution to, say, the many names of the easily found Sandy/Fir
Hill/Fir Lawn/Hood Loop Cemetery, nor is there consistently any contact
information to enable a location of a plot map for the majority of the
sites. Still, it is the premier work on the subject to date, as
evidenced by the recent search for the Revenue Cemetery.

The volume I have seen is an 8 1/2 x 11 paperback with a bright blue
cover of 1000+ pages -- it is a physically large volume with nice large
type. It only includes small, one-page county maps though, so an
additional mapping reference will be needed.
