I am addressing this to the list in general as many of you are wondering
what goes on, I didn't come up with an answer but definitely find evidence
of something totally irrational from computers involved here:
I have notice for some time that certain of my correspondants occasionally
send me email that comes up in tiny (10 pt) font. Since some of you were
somewhat exercised about that I tried to resolve why it happens on my
system.
the first thing I looked for was what my email program; Outlook from the
Microsoft Works 2000 package, has for display defaults. Here is where the
confusion begins, after much searching (I guess I could have tried help) I
found under view/current view/ either customize current view or define views
I find that my default setting is 8 pt tahoma!
So obviously I have no control over what shows up on my preview screen and
so I inspected a couple of emails with differing type; Linda VanOrden's obit
reports turn out to be formatted in appearance by the following line;
FONT FACE=arial,helvetica><FONT SIZE=3 FAMILY="SANSSERIF" FACE="Arial"
LANG="0"
I then looked at one that comes up in 10 pt on my computer and lo and behold
it is formatted by this line;
<FONT SIZE=2>
So here is where additional confusion comes in, it is obvious how it works
on my machine, yet some of you are receiving her email in 10 pt type.
I can't help you as obviously my email program has no control over what I
view. Those of you using this program presumably are seeing the same thing I
am, if not I would be curious to hear what your settings for viewing are and
what you get for actual type in your preview screen.
As to those folks getting 10pt previews of Linda and other people's email I
can only suggest going to your help files or your program manuals if any to
see if you can find some setting similar to the one I list above for my view
preferences.
If you right click on the email that is giving you trouble in the Windows
environment you should see an option to view source, this will bring up the
plain text version of the email with the html coding that determines the
format you see it in, If you see something other than what I show above for
Linda's email then I am really stumped.
I hope this doesn't overly confuse the issure moreso.
(Now wasn't that a grammaterically wonnerful sentence!)
