Some confusion here reigns -- this Wheeler of yours is located where?
You are mentioning Reedsport which I believe is in Coos County -- Is
there a Wheeler in Coos County, also? There are Wheelers in Tillamoook
and Wheeler Counties.

Of Wheeler County, Lewis MacArthur writes:
"It was named for Henry H Wheeler, who was born in Eric County,
Pennsylvania, September 7, 1826, of English and German ancestry; went to
Wisconsin in 1855; drove an ox team from Wisconsin to Yreka, California,
by way of Salt Lake, in 1857, in company with a family named Wells; came
to Oregon in 1862 and located at The Dalles in 1867, but soon went to
the Salmon River mines in Idaho. Mining being unprofitable, he secured
work driving a stage. He returned to The Dalles, and began farming and
stock raising in the vicinity of Mitchell, Oregon, where he remained
until his death, March 26, 1915. He was married December 19, 1875, to
Dorcas L Monroe, who died at Mitchell in March 1911."

Note that The Dalles and Dallas are two different Oregon towns, and I am
NOT identifying this Henry as Nathaniel Wheeler's father.

MacArthur mentions other Wheelers -- Coleman H Wheeler, a prominent
lumberman of Portland, James P Wheeler, and James H Wheeler, of Fort
Klamath, "one time deputy sheriff".
