Dear Rooters,

Thank you to all who have sent feedback about the new index. 

Several folks have reported difficulties in accessing the database. Thru some investigation on our end we have determined unfortunately, that the index is not compatible with older versions of the Netscape browser (e.g., 4.xx) at this time. We are attempting to determine if this can be resolved. If possible, researchers are encouraged to upgrade to more recent versions of free browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer.

I will post another announcement when and if we are able to resolve the problem.  

On another note some folks have indicated they miss the additional information that once appeared in the Portland Birth and Death indexes.  That information is still available.  On your search results if you click on any entry it will take you down one more level and show additional information about the record if it is available.  Again this was a design decision to make the initial screen of search results more consistent and less confusing for display purposes.  

I appreciate the feedback and we will make a few tweaks to incorporate some of these suggestions in the near future.
