and if you go to the bottom of this page you will find a number of links to
some very interesting Oregon History, or tall tales, sometimes hard to tell
which.

I haven't talked much about my brick walls lately, but have a three things
to throw out for possible feelers, one new;

HOLY COW! went to get this family page to paste in here and lo and behold
there in my notes I spy the character string CHouk, Imagine that;

anyway what I am after is any news of this family, specifically about
Clarence Woodruff, though that probably isn't an Oregon list concern, but
since Emma Louise died in Umatilla I thought someone out there might be able
to shed a little light on this family for me, my Aunt Beth claimed dau Emma
was born a Woodruff because Emma Louise didn't want to marry my great grand
Milan Morell Melvin and chose to marry Woodruff instead so great grand
married sister Mary Elizabeth. Unfortunately records show no evidence of
this so far as I have been able to determine.

8.  EMMA LOUISE3 TACK (NICHOLAS2, JOHANNE C.1)63 was born 16 February 1840
in Philadelphia, Pa63, and died 01 November 1865 in Umatilla, Oregon64. She
married MORGAN G. TUCKER65 19 September 1858 in Crescent City, Ca65. He was
born 28 December 182266, and died 18 August 1890 in Cloverdale, Calif67.

SHERRETT.

Notes for LILLIAN TUCKER:
http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~cchouk/oregon_trail/smith_river.htm
Mrs. Clarence Woodruff (Lillian Tucker) mother of Eleanor Layman, one of our
Club Members, was the first young lady from Del Norte County to attend the
State Teachers College. She graduated from San Jose Normal, May 31, 1888 and
was my husband's first teacher. Should I tell?--It was fifty-seven years
ago! I often wonder if any of my former pupils, after the passing of so many
years will regard me with the same love and respect that Clarence has always
had for Lillian Tucker. I sincerely hope so.

One old;
Now Cecil we come to my other big mystery, and the fact your name appers in
the above paragraph makes me wonder if maybe you have the wagon train they
came over on, and you just don't have their names;

my second great grand pa and family were in Crescent City Calif by 1850 or
so, but I have no idea how they got their;

4. SR. NICHOLAS2 TACK (JOHANNE C.1) was born 05 June 1811 in Harrisburg,
PA18,19, and died 19 June 1901 in Crescent City, Ca20. He married ELEANOR
MEGARGE21 22 April 1832 in Philadelphia, Pa22, daughter of JAMES MEGARGE and
ELIZABETH LIVESLY. She was born 06 October 1815 in Montgomery Co., Pa23,24,
and died 07 March 1897 in Crescent City, Ca24.

Notes for ELEANOR MEGARGE:
Death certificate for daughter Mary lists name Elizabeth McGregor born in
Scotland.

Children of NICHOLAS TACK and ELEANOR MEGARGE are:
	i.	AUGUSTUS3 TACK.
5.	ii.	ALBERT TACK, b. 23 February 1833, Philadelphia, Pa.
6.	iii.	NICHOLAS TACK, JR., b. 31 August 1834, Philadelphia, Pa.
7.	iv.	MARY ELIZABETH TACK, b. 13 October 1836, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania;
d. 29 January 1910, Gardiner, Oregon.
8.	v.	EMMA LOUISE TACK, b. 16 February 1840, Philadelphia, Pa; d. 01

	viii.	CATHERINE TACK25, b. 07 May 1848, Philadelphia, Pa25; m. JAMES K.
JOHNSON, 14 December 186525.

Notes for CATHERINE TACK:
Goosens Child No. 3 ancestors shows her married to James Arthur, but a
grandchild of James list a different Tack married to him, see Louisa Mary
Ella Tack. From Letters to Grandma I deduce that as of Aug 1939, she was no
longer married to Johnson and was married to ? Dowdall, or Doddall, page 221

11.	ix.	LOUISA MARY ELLEANOR TACK, b. 18 January 1853, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania; d. 08 April 1898, Napa area of CA.

and old number two;

This family group, minus father and with Step father William Pitt whom Pitt
Street in Gardiner is named for, came west by wagon train, again according
to Aunt Beth my great Uncle Albert Barnes Melvin received his middle name
from my second great grand ma's gratitude to a Mrs. Barnes from the wagon
train who nursed great grand through the trip and kept him alive in spite of
his TB. Considering what I have found out so far about Emma Sherrett nee
Tucker or Woodruff, I wonder about that story too, but if I could find the
wagon train they were on and find a Mrs. Barnes I might start to believe.

sorry this is so long, but if I posted all the questions that "Letters to
Grandma" have inspired, you would really be upset with me.
